Amplified Ensemble (8 mins)

Tessellations draws inspiration from M.C Escher’s Metamorphoses and explores how its conflict between stasis and movement can be perceived through sound. The piece is based around a series of layered tiling canons which are applied to both pitch and rhythm and distributed across the various combinations of the ensemble comprising of Bb clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor trombone, bass recorder, vibraphone, piano, violin, electric guitar and bass guitar all of which are amplified.
